About Us

BK-NY-USA: Made in America initiative promotes small business in the African heritage community that manufacture in Brooklyn  and other parts of the United States with consumers and buyers.

This platform was founded in 2011 by Barbara Garnes a small business owner from Queens, NY who owns a product development company called SoHe Designs.

Barbara realized traditional venues to meet retail buyers were too costly for her small business.  She had attended numerous trade shows over the years and the success rate was awful. She also came to grips that many New Yorkers  do not have the deposable income as before.

As a visionary she looked outside the box and found alternatives for herself and other entrepreneurs. By using what already exists and more grass roots locations, she is targeting new customers.

Phrase 1- Summer festivals

Over the years,  SoHe Designs has participated in the International African Arts Festival which hosts “pop-up shops” of designers and small business selling products made in Brooklyn and other parts of U.S.  This year, Barbara’s goal is to invite some of the millions of tourists that visit Brooklyn annually to shop the festival for made in America products.

The other group of consumers that are looking for Made in America labels is retail buyers. Barbara will be inviting them to shop the festival as well.

Shoppers will find the best in product design: Apparel, jewelry, home décor, textiles, natural hair products, bath & body products, fine arts, hand crafts and stationery; including the hottest fashion trend - African inspired design!

There will be networking opportunities for the buyers and the designers. Arrangements are in works for local contractors to meet up with designers seek to expand their manufacturing capabilities.

July 2-6, 2014. Commodore Barry Park, Brooklyn. An extraordinary business event!
